Minerva Cuevas (b. 1975, Mexico City, Mexico) is a conceptual artist who connects various socio-political topics. How are biodiversity, social responsibility and human rights associated? The video work 'No Room to Play' conveys a sense of dystopia. From the perspective of a child, the camera takes the viewer to an abandoned playground in the middle of an urban landscape. A girl’s voice recites a poem with a recurring verse “There was a time when we wore flowers on our heads.” The first hopeful wishes for the future are accompanied by innocent chimes which become more and more dissonant during the intensifying poem. The times of flowers and carefree life are clearly over – a young generation is condemned to live in a world of darkness and despair, knowing it could have been different.
