Ishita Charkraborty (born 1989 in West Bengal, India) uses art as a medium to aid individuals in practicing resistance against narratives told about them. Her focus lies on migration and the surrounding topics of displacement, trauma, colonialism, language, oral history and identity. In various media, such as drawings, installations, poetry, performance, Sound and sculpture, she gives a voice to those who are often never heard. "Mute Tongue" is an ongoing project which exemplifies Chakraborty's practice. The individual experiences of migration are cast into form and thereby the spoken word resonates eternally.
