Sowing seeds for a blossoming city in memory of Maurice Maggi

When: Sunday, October 5, 14:00
Where: Meeting Point Idaplatz, Zurich
no registration needed

with Alexandra Eichenauer

In memory of Maurice Maggi, we cordially invite you to join us on a special walk:
On Sunday, October 5, we will walk together from Idaplatz to the Stadionbrache and sow seeds along the way to ensure that our city remains colorful, diverse, and edible.

Everyone who – in the spirit of Maurice – wants to promote a sustainable, vibrant, and edible city and exchange ideas with like-minded people is welcome to join us.

We will bring a selection of seeds with us – but as always, the more the merrier!
So feel free to bring your own local seeds. Along the way, we will also collect seeds and distribute them directly.

At the end, we will linger together on the Stadionbrache, round off the afternoon with a small aperitif, and celebrate what is growing.

Please note: There will be no separate tour on edible wild plants on October 5. However, anyone interested in this topic is welcome to register for the walk on the previous day, October 4, at the following link:

About Maurice Maggi:

‘With my seeds, I wanted to make a small, blooming statement in the grey city. It burst out of a small crack and the entire public space changed.’
– Maurice Maggi

Back in the 1980s, gardener and chef Maurice Maggi (1955-2024) recognised that the city had great potential for increasing biodiversity. He was the first ‘urban gardener’ and ‘plant activist’ to sow pioneer plants in the city that successfully adapted to their barren habitat.
