Within the framework of the Locarno Film Festival’s Basecamp program, we invite you to River Landscapes – Speculative Writing & Oral History. Join us for a riverside workshop where the water becomes co-writer and witness in imagining new, place-based narratives.
Through “river writing”—a practice of attuning to flow, erosion, and memory—we generate stories that become part of River Landscapes: A New Glossary, a transdisciplinary project at the intersection of art, science, and ecological storytelling as a collective effort by the beyond geographies River Landscapes Team, funded by Pro Helvetia Synergies.
Curated by Martina Huber, founder of WE ARE AIA and Co-Lead of the River Landscapes Project and co-hosted by Eva-Maria Spreitzer, social innovation & futures researcher and co-founder of futuresful explorations
About the River Landscapes Project
River Landscapes: A New Glossary is a transdisciplinary project exploring Swiss rivers as ecological and cultural landscapes. Through workshops, fieldwork, and collective reflection, participants co-create glossary entries that weave together artistic, scientific, and local knowledge. The glossary—published as an open-source format—includes language, images, sounds, and stories that reimagine rivers not as controllable resources, but as vibrant, more-than-human ecosystems. The project will culminate in a public presentation series on a boat along the Limmat in 2026.
This workshop will also be part of an accompanying research on transdisciplinary projects. Further information will be provided on-site.
