We are excited to invite you to the Circle of Young Humanitarians' Humanitarian Enrichment Forum on June 27, 2024, at the Schwarzescafé (Löwenbräu, Zurich). Together, we will reflect on 75 years of the Geneva Conventions and their significance and relevance today.
There are currently over 120 armed conflicts in the world, with millions of civilians suffering the humanitarian consequences of them. The most important set of rules in international humanitarian law (IHL), the Geneva Conventions from 1949, seek to limit the effects of armed conflict by regulating the conduct of hostilities and protecting the victims of armed conflict. Despite the vital global relevance of the Geneva Conventions, they face significant challenges in today's world. Conflicts have become more complex, weapons more sophisticated and combatants even more diverse.
At this year’s Humanitarian Enrichment Forum by the Circle of Young Humanitarians, you’ll experience a glimpse of life in war through Waad al-Kateab’s courageous and powerful documentary FOR SAMA. Trigger warning: The movie contains scenes of violence, blood, and dead bodies.
With expert input from Dr. Anne Quintin, Head of the Advisory Service of IHL at the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), and Dr. Hamza al-Kateab, co-founder of the Action For Sama Foundation, you’ll have the opportunity to discuss the challenges and hopes for IHL in today’s world.
