As part of the interactive exhibition “Experimental Ecology - Art and Science in Dialogue”, Federico Luisetti, Flurina Gradin and Hernando Chindoy take the artwork “Salm Ethos*” as a starting point to discuss human-non-human interactions and theories of environmental humanities and traditional ecological knowledge with curator Martina Huber. Special guest Chindoy will represent the perspective of indigenous knowledge systems, biocultural peace and ethical responsibility towards human and non-human communities.
*The artwork “Salm Ethos” by Michelle-Marie Letelier and Karin Pittman explores ethical issues related to the global exploitation of salmon.
Biographies of the panelists:
Federico Luisetti, Professor of Italian Studies and Environmental Humanities, is the author of the monograph “Nonhuman Subjects. An Ecology of Earth Beings”, Cambridge UP 2023. He works on planetary paradigms and the environmental crisis.
Flurina Gradin works as a researcher and lecturer in design theory and ecology. In academia and with her company Wild Spots, she is committed to regenerative ecosystems and biodiversity in the built environment.
Hernando Chindoy is leader of the Inga Community in Colombia and Honorary Doctor at the University of the Arts London. Under his leadership, he fights for the human rights of indigenous communities and for biocultural peace. He created the Devenir Universidad program in collaboration with ETH Zurich and the AWAI Institute (Inga Panamazonic Biocultural Pluriversity).
Martina Huber is the founder and curator of the platform WE ARE AIA I Awareness in Art. She curates exhibitions and develops mediation formats that are created in transdisciplinary collaboration with experts and artists. In doing so, she raises awareness of complex social issues and makes them accessible on an emotional level.
