Botanical Memories: A Performances Serie – Triton, Chapter #1 I June 14, 2025

In collaboration with the University of Zurich, We Are AIA presents Botanical Memories: A Performance Series at the Botanical Garden Zurich. Taking place in the summer of 2025, this artistic program features performances, workshops, and lectures exploring both ancient and evolving knowledge of medicinal plants.

Set against the backdrop of the Botanical Garden, the series addresses the loss of traditional medicinal plant knowledge. The site's historical context fosters a dialogue on healing practices beyond Western medicine. The events will look at personal and collective relationships with plants and healing techniques, accessibility to nature, histories of migrations within human and more-than-human, and beyond.

The series invites the public to engage with artistic practices that draw on traditional wisdom, offering an opportunity to explore alternative healing methods and reconnect with nature—healing holistically as individuals within an ecosystem. Organised in collaboration with traditional healers and the Botanical Garden's ethnobotanists, the program encourages an exchange of knowledge and perspectives.

Triton Chapter #1
Saturday, June 14, 2025 / 5:00 PM / 60 minutes
Old Botanical Garden, Talstrasse 71, 8001 Zurich

Triton, Chapter #1 is a body performance that combines ancient myths with contemporary technology, encouraging reflection on the complex interplay between nature, emotions, and digital technology. This work offers a first insight into Invernomuto's new project, Triton, and attempts to establish a connection to a species of amphibian that inhabits a former ceremonial site on a mountain in northern Italy, near the artists' birthplace.

Triton, Chapter #1 was developed in collaboration with Haus der Kunst Munich and is supported by the Italian Council Programme (2024). It serves as an introduction to the first phase of a research-based project that the artists will expand over the coming years. They will utilize sound and auditory storytelling as fundamental techniques to explore their production phase.

The performance is produced in collaboration with La Becque, Lausanne (CH).

Invernomuto is an artistic partnership founded in 2003 by Simone Bertuzzi (Italy, *1983) and Simone Trabucchi (Italy, *1982). As authors of numerous research projects, they create works that are structured in time and space and interconnected in cycles. Based on shared theories, they pursue an open, network-like approach in which one idea can lead to multiple outcomes. Their practice is characterized by the targeted use of various media, including moving images, sound, performances, and publications. Both live and work in Milan.
