burnt wood and neon
Mariana Vassileva (b. 1964, Antonovo, Bulgaria) creates visually striking images with a high sensitivity to cultural trauma and identity. Equally, mind and emotion are triggered when confronted with her powerful but always fragile artworks. Racism, and the distribution of power, is an ongoing topic in Vassileva’s artistic practice, not denouncing but leaving the viewer with hope for a better future and with the encouragement to be part of this positive change in the world by taking responsibility and action.
